We dreamed of living in this location in 1997, our first visit to Marigot Bay, St Lucia. Following a combination of hard work & goodluck our dream is begining to look like a reality.
We discovered this exciting plot in 2005 when we climbed the concrete steps on the dirt road which revealed the overgrown ruins/foundations of a house & pool with a stunning view.
The property was surrounded in mystery....the house blew down in a hurricane, 40yrs ago....there was a fire....no-one knew who owned it....it was one of the original house's on the ridge built by/for a Canadian...it was going to be or was rebuilt....a director of Hess Oil had lived or was going to move there...the house was never completed.....?
A year later.....a miracle!.... we were offered the opportunity to buy it......from the Hess Oil Company.....its history is still unclear, unlike our good fortune.
We've been working on ideas over the last 2yrs which have been approved & are now about to become reality thanks to the hard work of a local Architect- Malcolm Kamakie; our chosen Builder- Kenrick of Wilson Construction shows great promise too; they've just completed a wonderful house (not far from our plot), which prompted us to give him the opportunity to build our challenging house, he's keen & ambitious, we believe he's got the ability. It will give us huge satisfaction if our house results in the addition of 2 successful businesses on the island as well as our dream house.
We've made lots of wonderful creative, imaginative & adventurous friends, many have built their own fabulous homes, they're all inspiring as well as supportive people.
Thankfully a couple of our friends Jeff & Jan have volunteered to supervise the build in our absence, which is extremely reassuring, as it's very unnerving to manage a build from this distance.
So the excitement & stress begins..........the completion date: Dec 2009.......!
